Moon Sign Calculator (Canada): Does Birth Time Matter?

The Moon changes sign about every 2.5 days, so on a good share of dates your Moon sign is the same all day. Enter your date and place (the time is optional) to check yours, in the local time of your birthplace.

Leave it empty if you don't know it.

Narrow it down with your life events

A calculator needs a time. Our report works the other way round: it tests the possible times against the dated events of your life and sends the most likely window, with the evidence and a confidence level. First, the free range check shows how many rising signs fit.

Does your birth time change your Moon sign?

Only on a date when the Moon crosses from one sign into the next. The calculator shows the Moon at 00:00 and at 23:59 local time. If the sign is the same, your birth time can't change it. If it differs, we give the local time of the change: born before it, you have the first sign; at or after it, the second.

The Moon moves about 13 degrees a day, the fastest of the planets, which is why it is the one most often affected. The rising sign is affected every day.

Born in Canada?

Whether a time of birth is recorded, and whether it appears on a certificate, depends on the province or territory and on the year. To find out what is on file for you, contact the vital statistics office of the province or territory where you were born. If nothing turns up, the free range check below tests every time that could be right.

Short answers

Does birth time change my Moon sign?
Only if the Moon changes sign on your birth date. This calculator shows the Moon at 00:00 and 23:59 local time and, when it changes, the local time of the change.
How often does the Moon change sign?
About every 2.5 days, so on roughly four dates in ten the Moon changes sign during the day and the birth time decides which sign it was.
Does it handle daylight saving time?
The time you enter is read as the clock time at your place of birth in Canada, using the historical time zone rules for that date, including daylight saving time, which has varied by province and year. If the clocks went forward and your time falls in the skipped hour, the calculator tells you.
