Moon Sign Calculator (UK): Does Birth Time Matter?

The Moon changes sign about every 2.5 days, so on many dates the birth time makes no difference to it. Enter your date and place of birth (the time is optional) and we'll show the Moon at the start and at the end of that day, in local clock time.

Leave it empty if you don't know it.

Narrow it down with your life events

A calculator needs a time. Our report works the other way round: it tests the possible times against the dated events of your life. We aren't taking UK orders yet; leave your email and we'll send one message when we open.

One email when ordering opens in the UK. Nothing else, and we delete the address after that.

About the UK report

Does your birth time change your Moon sign?

Only on a date when the Moon crosses from one sign into the next. The calculator shows the Moon at 00:00 and at 23:59 local time. If the sign is the same, your birth time can't change it. If it differs, we give the local time of the change: born before it, you have the first sign; at or after it, the second.

The Moon moves about 13 degrees a day, the fastest of the planets, which is why it is the one most often affected. The rising sign is affected every day.

Born in the UK?

A full birth certificate in England and Wales normally doesn't show the time of birth, except for twins and other multiple births. Scotland is different. Read how to find your birth time in the UK and whether a birth certificate shows the time, then come back and test the time you find.

Short answers

Does birth time change my Moon sign?
Only if the Moon changes sign on your birth date. This calculator shows the Moon at 00:00 and 23:59 local time and, when it changes, the local time of the change.
How often does the Moon change sign?
About every 2.5 days, so on roughly four dates in ten the Moon changes sign during the day and the birth time decides which sign it was.
Does it allow for British Summer Time?
The time you enter is read as the clock time at your place of birth in the UK, using the historical time zone rules for that date, including British Summer Time and the other changes to UK clocks over the years. If the clocks went forward and your time falls in the skipped hour, the calculator tells you.
