How to find your rising sign in Canada (3 ways)

You need your birth date, place and time. Put them in an ascendant calculator and it gives you your rising sign. If you don't know the time, find it, or test a range of times to see which rising signs fit.

Updated

Your , also called the ascendant, is the zodiac sign on the eastern horizon at the moment you were born. Which of the three ways below suits you depends on what you already know.

Way 1: Use a calculator with your birth time

If you know your time of birth, this takes under a minute. Enter your date, the place you were born and the time. Ours also shows your Midheaven and how long your rising sign lasted that day, so you can see how close you are to a change.

Use the place where you were born, not where you live now. The time is read as the clock time there on that date, daylight saving included.

Way 2: Find your birth time

Birth records in Canada are kept by each province and territory, and whether a time is on file depends on where and when you were born. Ask the vital statistics office of your province or territory, then try the hospital, your parents and a baby book. Our guide goes through them: how to find out what time you were born.

Whatever you find, treat a remembered time with some caution. People round to the hour or the half hour, and a rising sign can change within that.

Way 3: Test a range of times

If you only know roughly when you were born, such as “in the evening” or “between 2 and 4 in the morning”, give the earliest and latest time that could be right. The free range check lists every rising sign inside that range and the time each one starts and ends. Nothing is saved.

Hover, focus or tap a band to see its sign and hours.

If the range holds a single sign, you have your answer for that range. If it holds two or three, a free check can't tell them apart. That takes dated events from your life tested against a chart for each candidate time, which is what the full report does.

Why the time matters so much

The horizon turns through all twelve signs every day, so each rising sign lasts about two hours on average, less or more depending on your latitude and the season. A time that is off by an hour can land in the next sign. The Sun sign depends on the date and the Moon sign usually on the date too, which is why the rising sign is the one people lose when the time is uncertain. See what you can use without a birth time.
